Description
La Bergerie is a typical early 19th Century shepherds cottage which has been completely renovated in the original style by local craftsman. It is charmingly situated in it own grounds of approximately 1 acre partly shaded by mature oak trees. The cottage is beautifully decorated and is not a standard "functional" rental property. It has a striking new pool and is a haven of peace and tranquillity.

The accommodation provides full modern facilities whilst retaining all the original features and character of the building. The layout, with two bedrooms on each side of the living-room, is typical of the region. The very large main room has an open fireplace and lounging area at one end and a spacious dining area seating 10 at the other. The country-style kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge. The large bathroom has a bath, separate shower cubicle, double wash basins and toilet. There is also a second toilet.

The four 16 square metre bedrooms look out onto the pool, lawns, forest and meadows which are totally private. The kitchen opens onto a patio leading to the pool, a few steps from the back door. There is a very large range of outdoor games at your disposal and there are mountain bikes to explore the miles of forest tracks which start a few metres from your door.

The cottage is 4.5 km from the nearest village, Sabres, where you will find the usual village shops, the most important being the baker's for croissants and baguettes in the morning(an easy bike ride)! Bigger shops and supermarkets are either 15 or 20 km away. The area, Les Landes, is part of the National Park forest of South-West France. It is generally a very quiet farming corner of France, though the traditional summer village and town festivals in August are something to behold. Pretty villages are a short drive from the cottage, the cities of Bordeaux and Biarritz each being one hour away and worth a visit. The region really has all you could wish for - you are in the centre of the largest forest in Europe, with beautiful beaches 35 minutes away to the west by car. Pretty villages, historic fortified towns and exceptional sport and leisure facilities are all in easy reach. The area is of course famous for it's food and wine and the southern Bordeaux vineyards are just 45 minutes drive to the north. Bordeaux and Biarritz both have airports used by budget as well as traditional airlines.
